Is There a Fuel Crisis in Baghdad?

Baghdad, Iraq its well known that Iraq has one of the largest reserves of oil in the world, so it is quite ironic that the Iraqi people are constantly having problems obtaining various products produced from oil such as gasoline, propane, diesel, and kerosene. Furthermore, the prices of these products, when compared with the average income of an Iraqi citizen are barely affordable. The average income of an Iraqi citizens is between $100 and $300 per month. The price of one liter of gasoline is 450 Iraqi Dinar, or approximately $.30. While on the black market the price of one liter of gasoline is nearly 1500 Iraqi Dinar or $1. These prices are not stable and depend on the current conditions, whether there is an oil crisis or electricity shortage. The prices could jump between 2000 and 5000 Iraqi Dinar, or between $1.50 and $4 per one liter. Reaching most any destination in Baghdad could cost you half to three quarters of your gas tank due to the large number of checkpoints, walls, and convoys causing traffic jams across the city. Another side of the fuel crisis is the price of the diesel fuel that most of the neighborhood generators depend on. You can generate 5 amperes per month of electricity for approximately $150. However, 5 amperes are barely enough to power the fans, lights and some other simple household appliances. It is certainly not enough for turning on the water heater or air conditioner. The price is also dependent on the availability of diesel. One barrel of diesel that contains 200 liters costs approximately $200 and during a crisis or shortage, it could reach $400 and this is enough to fuel the neighborhood generators for only three days. The minster of Oil Hussein al- Shahristani has blamed most of the problems regarding oil production and refining on the security situation and the lack of electricity. He has also specified that a part of the problem with lack of oil products is due to the lack of oil refineries. It has been a common occurrence in Iraq that the trucks transporting these products such as propane, gasoline, or diesel are regularly attacked by different militias and insurgents, due to the belief that the trucks are working for the US military. As if these difficulties werent enough, gas stations have become particularly dangerous places themselves. Many stations have been attacked by car bombs, mortars, or gun fire. Normally the distribution centers for propane tanks are in the gas station, where people must wait for up to three hours to get one tank. If they decide to buy from the black market it will cost approximately 3000 Iraqi Dinar $2.50, and this tank is enough for just. one week.

Esso (S.O.)(a.k.a. Eastern States Standard Oil) is an international trade name for ExxonMobil and its related companies. Pronounced /ˈɛsoʊ/ ("S-O"), it is derived from the initials of the pre-1911 Standard Oil, and as such became the focus of much litigation and regulatory restriction in the United States. In 1973, it was largely replaced in the U.S. by the Exxon brand, while Esso remained widely used elsewhere. In most of the world, the Esso brand and the Mobil brand are the primary brand names of ExxonMobil, with the Exxon brand name still in use only in parts of the United States. In 1911, Standard Oil was broken up into seven regional companies, each with the rights to the brand "Standard" in certain states (plus a number of other companies that had no territorial rights). Standard Oil of New Jersey ("Jersey Standard") had the rights in that state, plus in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia. By 1941, it had also acquired the rights in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana. In those states, it marketed its products under the brand "Esso", the phonetic pronunciation of the letters "S" and "O". It also used the Esso brand in New York and the six New England states, where the Standard Oil Company of New York (Mobil) had the rights, but did not object to the New Jersey company's use of the trademark (the two companies did not merge until 1998). However, in the other states, the other Standard Oil companies objected and forced Jersey Standard to use other brand names. In most states the company used the trademark "Enco", and in a few "Humble". The other Standard companies likewise were "Standard" or some variant on that in their home states, and another brand name in other states. This situation was confusing to travelers. In 1973, Standard Oil of New Jersey renamed itself as the Exxon Corporation, and adopted that trademark throughout the country. It however maintained the rights to "Standard" and "Esso" in the states where it held those rights, by a token effort, by selling "Esso Diesel" in those states at stations that sell diesel fuel, thus preventing the trademark from being declared abandoned. The ENCO brand name was still used on locations in the midwest, which were scheduled for abandonment (Standard Oil: The First 75 years).Esso Blue Esso Blue was the brand name of Esso's paraffin oil (kerosene) for domestic heaters in countries such as the United Kingdom. Their TV advertising song from the 1950s through to the 1970s was the famous "Bom, Bom, Bom, Bom, Esso Blue!" A later campaign used the well-known song tune of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" cleverly reworded as "They asked me how I knew, it was Esso Blue, I of course replied, with lower grades one buys, smoke gets in your eyes. ... The non-smoking paraffin".Cleveland In the 1930s Esso acquired Cleveland, an independent company based in North East England. The name comes from the Cleveland Hills. Cleveland's products included a benzole blend and an alcohol blend called Discol. Both the Esso and Cleveland names continued in use until 1973, when the Cleveland filling stations were re-branded as Esso.

My Brother Shawn Inspired Me To Do This Video!

This is the man who use to beat me with a belt & get in fist fights with me. Made my friend watch while he beat me. Bought me a vibrater before I was even a teen. Read my diary. Burnt my down Syndromes brothers fingers on a kerosene heater to show him that is was hot. Started fights with my dad when he came to pick us up. My mother didn't do any thing to stop him. She alway talked bad about my dad trying to turn me against him. So I moved out. Then she went further to make up lies about my dad & brain wash my down syndrome brother to say her lies. She also made up lies about me. Is that what a mother is suppose to be? I don't think so! Shawn threaten me all you want. I don't care that you say you are going to shoot me in the face. It will not make me stop spreading the truth about your abusive dad & our mentally disturbed mom. She needs to stop making up lies about my dad! I will not stop posting to my blogs & facebook until mom takes back her lies & redeems her self & starts telling the truth. "The Truth Will Set You Free."

Brigitte Gabriel was born in 1965 in Lebanon to a Maronite Christian family.Gabriel has said that during the Lebanese Civil War Muslim militants launched an assault on a Lebanese military base near Gabriels house and bombed her home, collapsing it.Just ten years old at the time,Brigitte was severely injured and spent2 1/2 months in a hospital recovering. The only child of elder parents, their life savings were destroyed in the attack,as their money, their restaurant and their rental rooms all perished in the bombings.Gabriel reports that she and her parents were forced to live in an8x10bomb shelter underground for seven years with no heat, save for a small kerosene heater,no sanitary systems,no electricity,no running water and little food.To get water she had to crawl in a ditch alongside a road to a spring in order to evade Muslim Snipers. Before they left, they said prayers, because they did not know if they would come back alive.[citation needed]Later,in 1978,a man she called Chuck, warned Brigittes family of an impending attack on Christians by Islamic militias. She claims her life was saved that night when Israelis invaded Lebanon in Operation Litani.Later, her mother was seriously injured and was taken to an Israeli hospital where Brigitte noted the humanity of the Israelis in contrast to the propaganda against the Jews she had endured as a child Brigitte Gabriel was a news anchor for"World News,"an evening news program on the South Lebanon Army-affiliated Middle East Television, that was broadcast weeknights throughout Israel,Egypt,Syria,Jordan,Cyprus and Lebanon. She immigrated to the United States in 1989.Gabriel founded the ACT,"American Congress For Truth,"in late 2001.She has appeared on news and information TV shows, talk radio and made numerous public speaking engagements. She speaks four languages:Arabic,French,English and Hebrew. She is featured in the documentary Obsession:Radical Islam's War Against the West. She was interviewed on CNN where she denounced Hezbollah and sided with Israel in the2006 Israel-Lebanon crisis, thanking Israel for their efforts in her home country. She has also accused CAIR of failing to condemn extremism, radical Islam and terrorism, which in her opinion is necessary for the elimination of extremism and the discovery of a more moderate, secular approach to Islam. It is important to note that CAIR have repeatedly and unequivocally condemned extremism according to their website. The Official Website of Hasbara Fellowships,IsraelActivism.com,lists Gabriel as one of its Hasbara Fellowship speakers, and arranges speaking engagements for those interested in contacting her.Gabriel spoke as part of a lecture series organized by Duke University's Jewish community to provide counter-programming after the fourth Palestinian Solidarity Movement student conference was held there in October2004.She angered many members of the crowd when she referred to Arabs as"barbarians"and Dukes Freeman Center for Jewish Life later apologized for her comments.Gabriel has written a book entitled,"Because They Hate:A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America".In the book she responds to the incident at Duke University:"When I gave a speech at Duke University in2004 condemning suicide bombers and the culture that nurtures them, saying,'The difference between the Arab world and Israel is a difference in values and character. Its barbarism versus civilization. Its dictatorship versus democracy. Its evil versus goodness,'I was criticized and condemned.Duke's Freeman Center for Jewish Life apologized for my comments to the Arabs at Duke.I admit today that some so called"terrorists"do not,I repeat,do not represent the bulk of all Arabs and Muslims.Terrorists supported the killing of innocent civilians but Arabs and Muslims were willing to criticize and condemn terrorism."

Cupp House Project

Russell Cupp lived in a ramshackle four room house for most of his life. When the home was constructed during the depression in 1932, it was made out of any available material that could be afforded by Cupp's parents. The four room home had no central heating, and Mr. Cupp warmed one room by a kerosene heater. The home also had no indoor plumbing, only a cistern that became unusable by the 1970's, and an outhouse on one corner of the property. Mr. Cupp was raised, along with several brothers, in this small home, where he continued to reside after his wife's death in 1993. In early 2007, Blacksburg's Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services approached Mr. Cupp and offered assistance. Living on a fixed income well below the poverty line, Mr. Cupp had no means to improve his housing situation without financial assistance. With his agreement and the utilization of $116,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds, the Town, with assistance from Maids and More, Inc, constructed him a new home on Grissom Lane. Demolition of the old homestead was completed in early November 2007. "For the first time in his life, Russell Cupp can take a shower in his own home, and drink a glass of water from his own sink, without having to haul buckets of water from nearby stores or collect rainwater, " said Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam. "The goal of local government should be to reach out and positively affect someone's life, and we're so proud to have had this opportunity. We wish Mr. Cupp years of happiness in his new home." Deadly Tornadoes Strike South, OBI Responds with Aid

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. - Beginning Tuesday, deadly F4 tornados ripped through several states in the mid-South, leaving behind a trail of destruction. "We were upstairs and I heard a big roaring sound," said local resident and tornado survivor, Roneisha. "I just grabbed my kids and ran down the steps and as soon as we got down there, (the storm) swept over us." During the last 48 hours, severe storms and tornados have claimed the lives of at least 55 people making this the deadliest in U.S. history in more than 20 years, according to published reports. Operation Blessing responded early Wednesday morning, partnering with local churches to help supply aid to people in need. Kerosene heaters were distributed to help fight off the bitter cold, where temperatures dropped into the low 30s last night. The tornados left a path of death that spanned four states: four people killed in Alabama, 13 in Arkansas, seven in Kentucky and 31 in Tennessee. The storms came so quickly, some residents received little to no warning. Besides pummeled housing and building structures, fires erupted and water damage blanketed existing structures. Trucks from OBI's Hunger Strike Force are en route to the disaster scene to deliver personal hygiene supplies, diapers, feminine products and other toiletries. HOW YOU CAN HELP
Be a part of Operation Blessing's disaster relief efforts to those affected by the recent tornadoes by making an on-line donation today. With your support, OBI can continue to bring emergency food, water and medical care to those recovering from these deadly storms. www.ob.org

D.I.Y. Engine Preheater

This is a preheater I made out of an ammo can, some flexible aluminum dryer hose, a dryer conduit nipple, pig putty, and an MSR XGK camp stove. The video demonstrates setting it up and lighting it. I got this idea from an Alaskan flyer who posted on a web forum. His design had two hoses, but my aircraft has retractable gear therefore ample room for one big hose through the gear door under the cowling. I built this primarily because I wanted a "simple" and very portable heating solution since I am based at a tie down with no electricity. Will also come in handy when away from home at a lonely strip ;-) Basically, I cut large holes around the bottom of the ammo can... over 1 inch diameter on the ends, the long sides I used smaller holes. Jig sawed a large 4 inch hole in the lid for the conduit nipple and used high temp pig putty (plumbers epoxy) to seal it in. I have a peice of safety wire to hold the dryer hose in place on the nipple, and also a loose one to hold it from extending when not in use. The hose is fairly limp when extended, it will extend to 5 feet... I just extend what I need and shove it up in the cowling. The camp stove will burn any kind of liquid fuel, gasoline (unleaded), white gas, kerosene, Jet-A, diesel etc. The bottle is 20 oz. and should last up to 2+ hours. Lighting the heater requires it's own prime and preheat. Give the bottle a few pumps. Let some fuel into the heater bowl, light it. Let it heat the jet and bowl up... when it starts "poofing" it's ready to crack the valve a little. Eventually you end up with a nice blue flame, the bowl will glow red. It cools down fast after shutoff also. When outside in cold temps, the whole thing is cool enough to touch within 2 minutes. At 16F with calm winds, no cowling plugs or engine blanket, it melted the ice off the cowling and heated the engine to 40F within 35 minutes. The bottom of the crank will be the hottest being nearest the tube. Give it a few minutes after preheating to normalize the temps a little before starting.
